What is our Winter Blend all about?

Our Winter Blend is back for its seventh year, bringing together two beautiful coffees and a little something for a good cause.

It all started with our friends at Boss Morris, who kindly designed our winter label for free, asking only that we give something back in return. And so, our annual Winter Blend fundraiser was born.

This year, we're supporting Sunflowers Suicide Support, a Gloucestershire charity providing care and support to people bereaved by suicide.

Founded by two sisters following the loss of their brother, Sunflowers was created so that no one would have to navigate the heartbreak of losing someone to suicide alone. Today, they offer counselling, practical support and community activities, alongside education and training to help prevent suicide.

For every bag of Winter Blend sold, £1 will go directly to Sunflowers, helping them continue their important work.

The Story Behind the Coffee

This year's blend combines 75% Juba from Mexico with 25% Bugoye from Uganda, two coffees grown by smallholder farmers in very different mountain landscapes.

High in Guerrero's Montaña Alta region of Mexico, Juba began in 2017 with just five Indigenous coffee producers. Today, the collective brings together more than 70 farmers from the Me'phaa communities, where coffee grows on tiny plots of land that resemble little jungles. Fruit and timber trees provide natural shade for the coffee plants, creating a rich, biodiverse landscape.

Despite producing exceptional coffee, farmers in this remote region have historically had limited access to buyers, often leaving them with little control over the prices they receive. Through Juba, Ensambles has been working alongside growers to improve coffee quality, share knowledge and create better opportunities within the specialty coffee market.

Over in Uganda, Bugoye sits in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. Coffee is grown on small family farms, with cherries carefully picked by hand and delivered to the local Kyagalanyi washing station, where they are washed, fermented and dried.

Sustainable Impact

Better opportunities for farmers – Through training, quality support and access to new markets, Juba is helping growers build more sustainable livelihoods.

Farming with nature – In Guerrero, traditional agroforestry systems allow coffee to grow beneath established trees, helping to protect biodiversity and the surrounding landscape.

Keeping value close to home – In Bugoye, local processing creates employment and helps smallholder farmers access the specialty coffee market.

Why You'll Love It
