The Story Behind the Coffee

This coffee comes from the foothills of Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains, in a community called Bugoye in Bukonzo County. The region is made up of small farming towns spread across fertile lowlands, where coffee plays a central role in everyday life and local livelihoods.

The exporting partners, Kyagalanyi, who operate a washing station in Bugoye where they focus on producing high quality specialty Arabica. Local farmers deliver freshly picked cherries which are carefully washed, fermented and dried, creating a clean balanced cup that really reflects the character of the region.

Most farmers work around one hectare of land, with every stage of growing and harvesting done by hand. Coffee here is truly a family effort, rooted in shared knowledge and community support.

Sustainable Impact

Coffee in Bugoye is built on cooperation and long-term thinking:

Smallholder grown – Family-run farms keep production low-impact and closely connected to the land.

Share farming model – Farmers work together in community groups to process and market their coffee, improving quality while securing fairer, more stable income.

Local processing – The Bugoye washing station creates local jobs, reduces transport and keeps quality consistently high.

Supporting specialty coffee – By focusing on washed, high quality lots, Kyagalanyi helps farmers earn more and invest back into their farms and communities.

Why You’ll Love It

This washed Rwenzori coffee is smooth, comforting and beautifully balanced. Expect rich fudge sweetness, soft black tea florals, with gentle raisin depth and a rounded hazelnut finish.

It’s a clean, easy-drinking cup with plenty of character and every brew supports small Ugandan farming families working together sustainably.

👉 Lovely as filter for a soft, sweet and refined cup, or as espresso for creamy sweetness with subtle nutty notes.
