This Collaboration is all about celebrating women this festive season. Boss Morris are an all female Morris dancing side they have a strong creative thread that runs through their group the costumes are all made by them and are utterly transcendental and mind blowingly magical. We love their energy and ethos and the power that they generate as a group. Boss Morris and Noni's on hearing about this coffee we were compelled to work together.
Grown by fourteen female producers in Guerrerro, Montaña Alta- Mexico this coffee felt important to us many ways. The area suffers with high rates of poverty, marginalisation and migration north in search of work. Not only this, but the area is a target for ever increasing demand for narcotics this area has now become a path route for drug trafficking.
This has meant that the knock on effect for the area as very few companies will purchase produce from this area.
The fourteen women responsible for producing this coffee are fighting in a system which maginalises women.
These women were born in the Guerrero mountains, surviving human trafficking which is extremely common in this area, even within families. This does really highlight risks to be a women in this area and the strength of the women who have produced this delicious coffee. There are many struggles that are faced by these women, owning their own land and taking their own wages are but a few; Ensembles Coffee make the effort necessary to ensure that these women are paid their money and it doesn’t end up in the hands of a male member of the family.
